mucho gusto, espana.

hola de toleda, espana!

i arrived in spain on saturday the 5th. the flight was surprisingly not that bad. what was worse was lugging my huge bags around (pack light if you are going to be pulling your suitcases by yourself anywhere past the baggage claim). i got some almost blisters and a sore back and neck. got checked in to the hotel, got a roommate (who is pretty cool) and tried not to fall asleep (but still did).

so madrid was pretty cool. big city. we went on a bus tour. then we went to the prado art museum which was cool. saw a lot of great art. my favorite were el greco's paintings (1st picture).
then 4 of us tried to find our group meeting spot off really vague directions, walked for what seemed to be miles, and then finally gave up and took the metro ONE STOP to our meeting spot. when we ate, i got up the guts to ask for oil and vinegar (after looking it up in Rick Steve's) and the guy told me my spanish was really good! i blushed a bit. i've been trying not only to work on understanding and speaking, but getting the sweet accent and lisp like the spanish people. oh. something i thought was funny: my wine was 2.50 euro and the other girl's water was 2.80. haha.

today we drove to toledo (the brother city of the one in ohio) which is really cool. its the typical small windy cobblestone streets and lots of hills and 80 some church-type buildings. ridiculous. more walking tour. lots of walking. ate a sandwich which was two pieces of like french bread with "tortilla" in between and mayonaise. "tortilla" is not what you might think. its like a potato egg onion omelet type thing. i rather liked it. then we had "tapas" and cerveza (beer for you big americans). the tapas were french fries in "ketchup" (which tasted more like spaghetti sauce) and ranch -like sauce, little crunchy things, fried ham and cheese and chorizo. not a big fan of any of those. after that i got myself a tiny little cream puff which hit the spot. i'm excited to further explore european pastries ... mmmm!

we just found internet for the first time since we've all been here and we all went crazy. we are here in toledo tomorrow and then our 8.5 hour bus ride to barcelona the next day. shoot me now!

i'll try and update this as much as possible but i don't know if i'll have internet at my place in barcelona. its kind of hard to put pictures on here. so i'll try and upload them other places if you guys want to look at them!

adios! or as the spaniards say: adioths! hehe.

love you all and miss you all!

There is a Roman Circus in Toledo, Spain.

The clowns wear toga's and the lion tamer actually gets eaten by the lion when he sticks his head in its mouth.
